10 weeks on and still in Korea
Well, its been 10 weeks to the day that I've lived in Uijongbu, South Korea and its now hotter than ever. Being a Dunedin boy used to maybe one or two weeks of half decent weather the constant hot humid heat of Korea has started to get to me. The downer is that I've been told its not even the hot part of summer yet. Oh well everything is a life experience right ?? As for living itself, I can't remember a day here that we haven't been constantly on the go, that was until this weekend at least when both Katie and I became very sick. I guess that was a hint to slow things down a bit, its just theres so much to do and so little time.
Work is work. It still has its goods and bads. The kids for the most part seem to be a little more well behaved, either that or I'm just becoming more patient and tone deaf. The kindergarten kids are by far the most fun. Theres nothing like being paid to finger paint, learn the alphabet, and run around the room with a bunch of five year old kids that think you understand what they are telling you.
My Korean language skills are becoming slightly better. I can now order dinners out, and for the most part read the menus. I've also been able to order pizza and have it delivered to our flat. In saying this its one thing ordering, I haven't however mastered the understanding what they're saying back.
Holiday travel plans have been made. Katie, myself and two other teachers from ECC (Chris and Brian) are heading to Krabi, which a resort town near Phuket, Thailand at the end of July. We figured as we only have 5 days off we might as well spend it in a quiet resort area with plenty of beaches and islands.
This weekend coming up we're also making our first journey out of the Seoul area and heading for the East coast for our first beach trip. When I say we I mean about 8-10 teachers both Korean and English hanging out for the weekend. The Korean-English teachers at school are lots of fun and occasionally they'll hang out in the weekends.
Oh yeah. Big news. We're moving from our nice big place to the apartments right beside school. In some ways its sad to leave the place I now call home, but the pros of being so close to school out way the pros of staying in the big apartment. So if you're planning on visiting (Andie) our place is getting down sized but there will always be room for friends.
BTW - GO THE ALL BLACKS - We saw them play England on the bigscreen with a bunch of other kiwis last weekened.
Other than that life goes on.
