The Abel Tasman Pictures

Location : Top of the South Island (About an one hour from Nelson)

My Rating : 9/10

Comments : I have been to the Abel Tasman National Park twice now. Once for a day walk, and the second a three day trip with my old flatmate and friend Sunil. The track itself relatively easy with access to treated water at each of the huts. Should you get a chance to visit Abel Tasman I would seriously suggest doing at the least one day sea kayaking.

Copland Hot pools Pictures

Location : West coast of the South Island, an hours drive North from Haast.

My Rating : 8.5/10

Comments : The Copland hot pools have to be my favourite place to party. A 5-7 hour moderate walk up the Copland valley will take you to Welcome flat hut. The hot pools are one minutes walk from the hut, and after a hard days walk there is nothing better than relaxing with the southern alps surrounding you. There are about 3-4 big pools (each would be big enough to fit 20-30 people) all different temperatures, from hot to extremely hot to relax in.

So far I have been to the hot pools twice with a group of about 35 students. Both times have been a blast, and I plan on leading another trip there later this year.

The Hollyford Track Pictures

Location : Milford Sound, Fiordland.

My Rating : 7/10

Comments : Currently I have only been to the Lake Alabaster hut on this walk and would like to eventually walk the whole track which leads to the West Coast. This part of the track was 5 hours walk and would be rated as easy. If you like bush walking, lakes, and waterfalls, then this is a place you may want to visit.

The Routeburn Track Pictures

Location : Milford Sound, Fiordland and Glenorchy.

My Rating : 8.5/10

Comments :The Routeburn track is located in Fiordland New Zealand and is known as one of our great walks. The Routeburn can be started either from the Queenstown, Glenorchy side or from Te Anau. This 39 km walk goes from native bush to stunning alpine views.

This would have to be one of my favourite tracks which I visit frequently. My first experience on the Routeburn was Feb 2002 when 28 keen OUTCers battled the elements and ended up staying the night in the emergency shelter at the top of the Routeburn (not made for that many people by the way) after leaving from the divide (Milford side). Even though it was supposedly summer time a nasty South-West flow meant it snowed. Unfortunately I did not take my camera on this trip but a friend has a picture of me in my sleeping bag outside the shelter in the snow.

You can read about my latest Routeburn adventure in the hiking logs section.
